stp #1: vine, branches and the gardener

An idea came up the other day that got me motivated to blog again and do it at a more consistent basis. I will start a "stop, think and pray" series that can vary from looking at life, reading a book, school, work, or whatever. Monday blogposts from now on will be stp (stop, think and pray) Mondays. Today is the first stp post. Enjoy!

I just had one of those "wow..." moments yesterday. It feels sort of like the feeling when you look at the stars and think about how small you are and how mysterious and infinite God is. Basically, if you have ever looked at God's creation or something and just stop and think, you've experienced a "wow..." moment.

I've read John 15 countless times before and haven't really made an effort to "stop, think and pray."

In verse 1: "I am the vine, and my Father is the gardener..."
In verse 5: "...you are the branches..."

So Jesus is speaking as "I", God is the gardener, and We are the branches. This is not really in context of the whole passage, but hear me out. We are the branches. Jesus is the vine. God is the gardener. We are the branches, Jesus is the vine, God is the gardener. You see?

We are the branches. Check out a tree branch or a twig. That's us, come off from Jesus who is the vine. Now the gardener is God. Take a look at a branch and a human. Would you say that the human is far far greater than the branch? By no means am I putting humans on a pedestal, I'm just playing along with this illustration. The more I thought about how far apart we are with God, the more I felt smaller, the more I saw how big and awesome He is. Just my 2 cent on this passage for today even though it may not be in context, it made me see God a lot bigger today than I did yesterday.
