grace is so hard to understand

What is this word grace?

I don't really know how to explain it...The more I try to comprehend what grace is, the more confused I get. This has got to be one of the toughest things for me to understand as a follower of Jesus.

I can try to find as many definitions or illustrations of what grace is... I will still not be satisfied with it. What? Why? How? Who? Looking at my life, the more I see God's hand in my life, the more I don't understand it, but the more I want to serve Him.

Hmmmm..If I only had one verse to describe what grace is, I think this will just satisfy it enough...

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good."
