I'm going to try...
(A) to write a blog post finally!
(B) to get an A on my final exams
(C) to get a job
(D) to do my best
(E) to find a girlfriend
(F) to eat that chicken feet
(G) to read the bible more regularly
(H) to have more faith
(I) to pray more
A quote that I got from an awesome man of God, Mo, that I will always apply when leading small groups or for discipleship is:
"Stupid questions, give you stupid answers"
I know the line that "there are no dumb questions, only poorly worded ones"; that is on the student's side of the spectrum. In a man-to-man talk I had recently, I asked the question, "How are you doing with Father?" which is a good question to start, but the chances of receiving lame answers such as "good", or "I can do better" are high. But the problem is, the answer won't go anywhere unless the person asking the question asks more questions, such as "why? how? what about this?"
But that is a different topic. What caught my attention and thought about was the word "try". I searched it on dictionary.com and it defined as:
try:
make an effort or attempt; "He tried to shake off his fears"; "The infant had essayed a few wobbly steps"; "The police attempted to stop the thief"; "He sought to improve himself"; "She always seeks to do good in the world"
I see "try" as, I'm not going to do, but I'm going to do, to do (get it?). Basically, when I hear someone say "I'm going to try to read my bible more or pray more." That really means that they are setting themselves up for failure. I don't think we can try the bible or faith and see how it works, especially if you believe both of them. Sort of like the lukewarm concept (Revelation 3:15-17). Trying faith, is not faith. You are either all in or not all in.
So maybe the word try may work better with answers such as answer F -"try to eat chicken feet" because you want to see how it works and there is a chance of failure. You can disregard option A because I "did it". And the other answers such as B-E, well I don't know so I'm going to let you think about them and share.
